Depression
Depression is constant feelings of discouragement, sadness, hopelessness, helplessness, and worthlessness. Depression interferes with one's everyday life. Symptoms may include: disrupted sleep, no motivation, loss of interest, quiet, sad, antisocial, disconnected, isolation, change in appetite, feeling empty, guilt, hopelessness, restlessness, thoughts of harming oneself or ending their life, and more. Depression is different for everyone. Some depression is temporary or situational, while more extreme cases are chronic. Everybody has their bad days, but when it starts to become constant is when it becomes a problem.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder is extreme unpredictable and uncontrollable mood swings, that can last days to months. These mood swings are so severe that they interfere with personal relationships, academics, work, and daily life. Symptoms include: feeling extremely optimistic or extremely depressed, unrealistic beliefs about one's "powers and abilities", very disrupted sleep, rapid speech, distracted, impaired judgement, reckless behaviour, and more.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Seasonal affective disorder is a type of depression that is related to season changes. Typically, people with S.A.D see the symptoms start mid to late fall and last until late spring. Symptoms are almost the same as depression, but differ in the slightest. Symptoms include: low energy, disrupted sleep, no motivation, loss of interest, quiet, sad, antisocial, disconnected, isolation, change in appetite, feeling empty, guilt, hopelessness, restlessness, thoughts of harming oneself or ending their life, and more. S.A.D is most commonly treated with light therapy.
